Model freshness
What this page covers
Section titled “What this page covers”Why the model list changes, and how customers should choose model names that can be requested.
Request only names that exist on the catalog
Section titled “Request only names that exist on the catalog”- After logging into the console, the model catalog list for that day is the only public inventory.
- Names that appeared in docs, posters, or chat are not guaranteed to be requestable today.
- Support must not send customers “model names that only work internally.”
Common reasons for change
Section titled “Common reasons for change”- Providers bring models online or offline, or rename them.
- Preview models and stable models switch.
- A public name is temporarily unavailable, so you need another name from the catalog.
- Long context, peak/off-peak pricing, or media capabilities differ from standard text pricing; the pricing page marks these separately.
Recommendations when choosing a model
Section titled “Recommendations when choosing a model”- Copy the full model name from the catalog; do not type from memory.
- Verify with a short text request before running long tasks.
- When you need images, tool calling, or a specific protocol, confirm what the catalog / pricing page says for that model; do not assume every model has the same capabilities.
- If the client reports the model does not exist or is unavailable, check the catalog again; do not switch to a first-party token.
Relationship to pricing
Section titled “Relationship to pricing”Unit prices, discounts, and whether negotiated pricing applies are in Pricing and billing. This page does not repeat any historical unit price.
